Verbena Bonariensis Purpletop Vervain

I am starting to think that I should put a question mark at the end of every post I make with pictures of flowers. I do my best to identify them, with the help of the wonderful world wide web of information and attempts at such — but whether or not I am finding the right information remains to be seen.

This is not what I thought Verbena looked like, but whether that is me confusing two flowers, or seeing this at a different stage of flowering than I am used to is also part of the mystery. Whatever the truth of the situation, I was struck by the beauty of the colors, and the delicate nature of the individual blooms.
